About Cleverly Law

First and foremost, I am a husband, father, brother and son.  These are the titles that mean the most to me and drive me to do what I do.  For over twenty-years I’ve used my law degree to help make a difference in people’s lives and believe there is no greater reward than to provide people with the peace of mind knowing that their family and loved ones will be taken care of should something happen to them.  Most attorneys and firms commonly refer to this as “estate planning”, but we think a better term for it would be “life planning”.

You see, at The Cleverly Law Firm, we believe that estate or “life” planning should not just be about passing on tangible assets – it’s about preserving your legacy, your values, and your unique family story. Our unwavering commitment to providing you with all-encompassing estate plans that truly work sets us apart in the realm of estate planning law firms.

Our philosophy revolves around putting your family at the center of the estate planning process. For example: When parents with young children plan with us we go above and beyond to ensure that should something happen to you they are protected.  So, in addition to designating both short and long-term guardians for your children, we also include not only a packet to leave with a babysitter should an emergency arise, but also individualized ID cards to be placed in your wallet informing and instructing first responders that you have children waiting for you at home and who to contact.

We also recognize that your assets are more than just numbers on a balance sheet or bank statement; they represent the fruits of your hard work and the key to a secure future for your loved ones. Our dedicated team will take the time to understand your family dynamics, your dreams, and your vision for the future, ensuring that your estate plan reflects not just your tangible assets, but also your family’s unique story.

A significant number of our clients are also business owners – a group of people I admire and know well.

I have owned healthcare, tech and B2B service companies, and am one of only a handful of attorneys in the state to have successfully started, scaled and sold two separate businesses; one of which to a private equity backed buyer. I’ve also run a third company through a venture capital back incubator and seed round of financing.

Why is this relevant or important?  Simply put, when it comes to succession planning or planning for the sale of a business I not only possess the legal expertise required, but I am also able to draw upon my experience and skill as a multiple business owner to ensure my clients receive the best guidance possible.

In addition to the above, I have also been an adjunct professor of business law; served as the Ellis County Bar President; was a board member for the Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association; and have served on numerous other local and state non-profit boards and committees.
